Inselruhe was officially listed in the National Register of Historic Places on December 12, 1976, as listing number 76001506. It is also listed with the National Historic Trust.

Two men who have lived there in the past seem to disagree with each other over the haunting. One says that he’s never had anything happen to him at all, while the other says that he has. Unfortunately, like Frank Miller, he would say no more on the subject.

One island resident of more than thirty years has had multiple experiences while driving past this house. The first time he saw something, it was in the left-hand window of the house on the second floor. For a moment, he thought he had seen someone looking out at him, and the next moment, the figure had vanished. On a second occasion, he was driving by the house and this time distinctly saw the full form of a man looking back at him. He was dressed in curious attire: a white sailor’s hat, a white shirt and a pair of grayish-blue pants.

The last time he saw the apparition, he was riding with a friend and again saw the man looking down at him. At this, he insisted that his friend drive faster. The old man’s gaze was quite unsettling.

Details are sketchy about who or what might haunt Inselruhe, as no one wishes to elaborate on the events that take place there. A quiet stroll past this house on a warm summer evening might bring down a stare from above. It’s all good though. Just keep walking.
